Web Tutor (Regular) – Open Learning Division (Burnaby Office)

The Health and Human Services Department of Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) has a vacancy for a regular web tutor (100% TAP) for NURS 293, Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Qualifying Theory, and NURS 294, Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Qualifying Clinical, effective immediately.

These courses are part of the Transition to Canadian Nursing Program, which is designed to meet the educational needs of internationally educated nurses (IEN) making a transition to nursing practice in B.C. The courses introduce students to the assessment and treatment of patients with mental health challenges. Successful completion of both courses is required to meet the College of Registered Nurses of BC (CRNBC) requirements for registration.

Able to provide guidance and direction to students as they progress through the modular workbooks, you will be responsible for motivating, supporting and communicating with students by WebCT and/or by phone, and evaluating their assignments. You will also work as a member of TRU-OL’s Health & Human Services Department team.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing or in Clinical Psychology;
  • A current, practicing member with the CRNBC
  • Extensive nursing practice in psychiatric/mental health nursing in a Canadian context
  • Knowledge of the contextual factors affecting nursing roles
  • Experience as a nurse educator in a post-secondary educational institution
  • Experience with the learning needs of nurses who have completed basic nursing education in other countries, and who are seeking to enter the Canadian workforce
    The ability to function as a tutor providing educational support in a distributed learning mode
  • Computer/Internet proficiency

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Recent instructional and clinical teaching experience in acute care settings to second to fourth year Registered Nurse students
  • Skills that will complement and supplement the existing human resources/skill mix within the Nursing Department/programs
  • Distance adult education experience

Remuneration will be as outlined in the BCOUFA Collective Agreement.
Qualified internal BCOUFA applicants will be given first consideration in filling this position.
