Position - Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Operational-Investigations - The Coroner, Pediatric Medical Investigator is responsible for providing pediatric medical expertise to investigation and initiatives aimed at preventing future deaths, improving the health and safety of the children of British Columbians and improving the quality of all investigative activities of the BC Coroners Service in the area of health related pediatric deaths. The position also provides consultative advice to coroners in the field during pediatric fatality investigations when medical issues are a factor. The position will utilize pediatric medical expertise to identify systemic medical issues and trends to fatalities and develop recommendations on public policy and prevention initiatives. The Coroner is required to deal with difficult/unpleasant situations, traumatic injuries and deaths and be available on an on-call basis (24 hours).

Qualifications - Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or medical sciences and paediatric medical experience OR Registered Nurse or degree in related field (legal, medical or social sciences disciplines) plus a minimum of two years experience in medical investigations/review or a related field OR completion of a two year diploma in the same disciplines from a recognized college or institution plus a minimum of three years experience in a related field. Experience in paediatrics or a related field. Experience in death investigation and/or experience in an investigative field. Experience in Neonatology preferred. Experience/training in word processing and other standard computer applications. Demonstrable capability to operate within a wireless environment. Must have valid British Columbia Driver's Licence. The successful candidate will be required to travel within the designated geographic area and may be required to attend physically challenged sites. Prior to submitting an !
